Press release

sQuid to be accepted on four additional transit operators in Norfolk

London – 02 December, 2015

sQuid, the digital transaction solutions provider, is pleased to announce that it is to be accepted as a payment option on four additional bus operators, as part of an expansion to Norfolk County Council’s Holdall smartcard scheme.

Launched in March 2014 to remove cash on its Park & Ride service, the scheme has grown with over 5000 contactless Holdall smartcards now in operation. The expansion will result in Sanders Coaches, Simonds of Diss, West Norfolk Community Transport and Lynx Bus of King’s Lynn all accepting sQuid payments from January 2016.

sQuid payments enables the public to efficiently manage their travel spend, replacing the need to carry cash, speeding up boarding times and significantly reducing the amount of queuing time. Members of the public apply for a Holdall smartcard, create an account with sQuid where they can top up their card, enable the auto top up facility and manage their account online - so that they, or their children, never run out of funds.

sQuid’s reliable and scalable smart ticketing solution is Department of Transit ITSO standard compatible and has already been proven in other integrated smart ticketing schemes in the UK. This scheme further proves that sQuid’s technology enables multi-operators, with multi-ticket requirements, to seamlessly transition from traditional ticketing to contactless, digital payments.

John Gallacher, Transit Project Manager at sQuid commented:

“It’s fantastic that Norfolk County Council has expanded sQuid payments on the Holdall smartcard to these 4 bus operators. Our experience in being the only UK multi-operator provider of Pay-As-You-Go transit payments enables clients like Norfolk County Council to provide a streamlined, more convenient payment option to the public.”

Laurie Egan, Travel Network Manager at Norfolk County Council added:

“We are consistently looking to evolve and improve the travel experience for the public. The Holdall smartcard and sQuid’s easy-to-use online account makes it fast and simple for the end-user to top up and manage their travel spend – providing a safer, more convenient and cost-effective way to travel.”
